Mike Oldfield tent down.

12 Jul

The Daily Mail 7 July 2010 reported that British musician Mike Oldfield (Tubular Bells Fame) has left the UK for good and taken up residence in Bimini The Bahamas. He said he wanted to move somewhere warm. However the crunch came when the ban on smoking in public places came in. He stated: “One of my joys was, after a hard day’s work in the studio, to go down to my local pub and have a pint of Guinness and a little roll-up.”

The point is that MP’s do not necessarily have any kind of high IQ level. For the most part they are individuals who managed to ‘blag’ the public into voting for them. A high number just wanted to obtain an income with generous expenses without having any responsibilities of the kind that would be expected of them in the commercial sector. The kind of freedom extended by their position in public life would also not be possible in the real world so its not a bad cop-out.

Hence the current state of affairs where we have become a nation of unbelievably sad and politically correct individuals. A nation without personality, humour, or that quintessential Britishness so loved around the world before the Blair/Brown Experiment went so terribly wrong.

The current crop of comedians appearing at The Wheel Tappers and Shunters Social Club (The Commons) are led by that dynamic duo Cameron and Clegg, a poor imitation of Morcambe and Wise, who have signalled a wish to repeal some of Labour’s madness. Alas it is all but too late. I fear the damage has been too great and the nation has been inextricably changed forever.

And so it is with the above in mind that I too will be taking my tent down later this year and like Mike Oldfield moving to a warmer and less restrictive location.

Britain is not Britain anymore.
