Treasury staff's June pizza £226,000. We paid. OK?

31 Aug

I was reading a story in The Sun in the Pastry Box cafe at Poole Bus Station about how staff working at HM Treasury are allowed to call out for free Pizza Delivery. The employees who number 1,350 ordered more that £226,000 worth of Pizze in the month of June alone. The story has gone largely unnoticed by other media.

This shocked me. When people read this, they say “The Government has plenty of money to spend in this way so what does it matter if I claim the dole?” It summons up a devil-may-care attitude in a certain class of people. Redundancies, set to occur in the Civil Service, soon, will no doubt mean more overtime, and more ‘free’ Pizza.
