Google: righteous. Attackers: jealous rat-bags.

Jay alerts us to Evening Standard coverage:

“Google in EU probe over ‘abuse of its position'”

The European Commission has launched an investigation into whether Google has abused its dominant position in online searches… …followed complaints from [Foundem] about the search giant’s behaviour…

…Google denies the allegations [and] a spokesman said: “We have worked hard to do the right thing by our users and our industry. We’ll be working with the Commission to address any concerns.”

It said Foundem “duplicates 79% of its website content from other sites.”

“We have consistently informed webmasters that our algorithms disadvantage duplicate sites,” Google said.

“Since we started, Google we have worked hard to do the right thing by our users and our industry. But there’s always going to be room for improvement, and so we’ll be working with the Commission to address any concerns.”

I used to hate Google but it was only on knee-jerk principle. I hate ALL new things with silly names. When I had a go with Google Earth including Street View, I fell in love.

…and on the assumption that there may, just possibly, be some humans working at the European Commission then I expect they’ll gather their evidence for the case the way the rest of us humans would do it.
They’ll look it up on Google!
