Rising steel of WTC defies ancient hatred.

Jay has this story from Yahoo News:

The steel frame work of one of the towers at a construction site in New York City has reached Level 52. This is 200 metres above street level.

The plan is for the tower to reach 104 levels, with an antenna reaching many metres higher, bringing it to a symbolic 1,776 ‘feet’ (the ‘foot’ being an archaic British Imperial unit of measurement).

The year 1,776, in the Common Era calendar, was when USA was declared as an independent nation state, no longer a colony of England.

United States of America intends to remain independent of a certain world-wide empire, being built by a certain misogynist faith. The new development replaces structures destroyed by the enemy.

The building [hopes to] encourage and attract corporate tenants…

Steve Coleman, spokesperson from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said he was hopeful they would finish the building by the end of 2011.

It takes so long for workers at the rising tower to return to the ground that a sandwich shop built out of shipping containers is being raised along with the building by a hydraulically powered platform.

Several skyscrapers are planned at the site, plus a transit hub, a performing arts centre, and two pools in the exact location of two towers destroyed by the enemy. Good going NYC and USA!

I admire their pluck – and given today’s air-travellers are virtually STRIP-searched, it seems unlikely this new structure will meet the fate of those it replaces.

But would I want to work in it? Not freakin’ likely!
